This integration eliminates the need for separate contracts, independent authentication credentials, or redundant billing setups. By leveraging the AWS account as the primary identity and payment vehicle, AWS becomes the first cloud provider to offer a truly native Claude Platform experience.

The feature set available through this integration is identical to the direct Anthropic offering, ensuring that developers do not have to sacrifice functionality for convenience. The platform includes the core Messages API and a suite of advanced capabilities, many of which are currently in beta. These include Claude Managed Agents for orchestrating AI workflows, the advisor tool for specialized guidance, and integrated web search and web fetch capabilities. Furthermore, the platform supports the MCP connector for standardized data source integration, Agent Skills for extending specific agent capabilities, native code execution, and the files API for complex document processing. Beyond Bedrock: The Architectural Shift

While AWS already offers AI model management through Amazon Bedrock, Claude Platform on AWS represents a fundamentally different architectural approach. The critical distinction lies in the data processing path and the security boundary. Amazon Bedrock operates entirely within the AWS security perimeter, making it the primary choice for organizations with strict data residency requirements. In contrast, Claude Platform on AWS is operated directly by Anthropic, meaning requests and data are processed outside the AWS security boundary. This creates a strategic choice for engineering teams: they can prioritize the rigid isolation of Bedrock or the native feature velocity and direct platform experience of the Claude Platform.

This shift also introduces more flexible authentication and governance models. For high-security production environments, the platform recommends using AWS Signature Version 4 with IAM temporary credentials. For rapid prototyping and testing, standard API keys remain supported. Access is managed via the AWS Marketplace, where users activate the service and create workspaces to isolate environments by project or team. These workspaces function as IAM resources, allowing administrators to control access to specific environments using Amazon Resource Names (ARNs).

Because all usage is billed through the AWS Marketplace, costs are visible within the AWS Cost Explorer alongside other cloud expenditures.
