Google announced the official global release of the Gemini app for Windows, enabling users to receive artificial intelligence (AI) assistance with a single shortcut without the need to switch browser windows. Office workers and students can press the 'Alt + Space' shortcut on their Windows PCs to immediately call up Gemini on top of their current workspace, allowing them to write documents, summarize content, organize files, and get help with homework or projects without interrupting their workflow.
Through this newly released desktop app, users can directly integrate information from Google apps such as Gmail and Google Drive to create project summaries or handle complex, multi-step tasks. Additionally, various creative tasks, such as generating custom images for presentations, can be performed within a single space. The app is designed to run lightly and smoothly in the background, ensuring it does not slow down the computer during operation.
Anyone using Windows 10 or 11 operating systems can download and use the program from the official website (gemini.google/desktop). Google stated that the launch of this Windows app is only the beginning and that more native desktop features will be introduced sequentially in the future.
