We've all seen the growing debate over AI-generated music—it's becoming harder and harder to tell what's human-made and what's AI, which can be a bit frustrating for artists and listeners alike. To help clear things up, Suno is stepping up. CEO Mikey Shulman announced that the service will start adding watermarks to all its audio outputs to align with industry standards for AI content labeling.
Once these watermarks are in place, streaming platforms will have the power to either label tracks as AI-generated or block them entirely. Suno hasn't confirmed if they'll build their own system or use an external tool like Google's SynthID, but SynthID is already a heavy hitter; Google has used it to label over 100 billion images and videos, along with 60,000 years' worth of audio from Gemini models. It's a big move toward making the AI music world a lot more transparent for everyone.
