OpenAI has newly introduced a 'Data agent' in the enterprise ChatGPT Work environment, allowing anyone to ask questions about company data using natural language and build interactive dashboards. While previously analyzing internal data required waiting for separate reports or writing analytical queries directly, users can now directly identify the causes of stagnating sales or increased expenses through a conversational format and share visualized results.

Connecting Internal Data Sources and Permission Management

This agent connects directly to approved data sources such as Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, and MongoDB, as well as document files in Google Drive and SharePoint. Enterprise administrators can specify which data connections to allow and which user roles can use them, and table-, row-, and column-level access permission restrictions of the connected accounts are applied as-is.

Integration with External Business Tools

Generated analysis results can be integrated with existing enterprise business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Sigma, and ThoughtSpot to build and edit dashboards. Companies participating in the alpha program, such as NTT Data and Thermo Fisher, stated that non-engineer sales and general department employees are directly updating dashboards and exploring data using natural language.
