This tension is further exacerbated by the way AI has transformed the gateway to employment. While Silicon Valley frames large language models as the inevitable future of productivity, Gen Z experiences them as an opaque filter. Companies have deployed AI automation tools to screen applicants, creating a surreal loop where a candidate uses AI to write a resume that is then read and rejected by another AI, without a human ever entering the equation. This creates a cycle of alienation where the technology does not empower the worker but instead acts as a barrier to entry.
