This system is powered by Strands Agents, an open-source agent framework that serves as the structural backbone. Under this model, a user simply defines the agent's role, selects the desired model, and specifies the tools the agent is permitted to call. AgentCore then automatically handles the orchestration and execution.

This trend toward managed infrastructure is not limited to the cloud titans. Anthropic has streamlined backend operations through Claude Managed Agents, reducing the friction of agent deployment. Simultaneously, OpenAI has updated its Agents SDK to include enhanced sandbox support and pre-configured harness capabilities, ensuring that code execution happens in isolated environments to prevent system-wide vulnerabilities.

The Trade-off Between Velocity and Control

While these tools all aim to solve the shadow agent problem, they reveal a deep ideological split in how the AI stack should be managed. The divide is essentially a choice between deployment velocity and systemic control. AWS, OpenAI, and Anthropic are optimizing for the speed of the product cycle, while Google is optimizing for the efficiency of the management layer.

To visualize this, consider the difference between a meal kit and a professional kitchen's command center. The AWS approach is the meal kit. It provides the pre-measured ingredients and a clear recipe, allowing anyone to produce a high-quality result and get it to the table quickly. It is designed for agility and rapid iteration. Google's approach, however, is the control plane. It is less about the individual meal and more about the entire kitchen's operation. It monitors every ingredient entering the building, enforces strict hygiene protocols, and tracks every movement of the staff to prevent errors. This distinction becomes critical when addressing the problem of state drift. For an agent performing long-term business processes, it is a catastrophic failure. It is the equivalent of an employee who memorized the company menu a year ago and continues to recommend dishes that are no longer served. For the modern enterprise, the choice of tool depends entirely on the cost of failure. For low-risk internal services or experimental prototypes that do not directly impact revenue, the harness-based approach of AWS or OpenAI is superior because it allows for rapid experimentation. However, for core business processes involving financial transactions or the handling of personally identifiable information, the risk of a single unmonitored error is too high.
